Comments requested during the IRMA-standard independent on-site audit for Eramet’s responsible mining operations at the Grande Côte (GCO ) site, in the departments of Tivaouane (Thiès region) and Kébémer (Louga region), Senegal.

Between January 8 and 18, 2024, auditors from SCS Global Services (SCS) will visit the site as part of an independent audit of Eramet’s Grande Côte Operations (GCO) mineral sands operation, to assess its performance against the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) standard for responsible mining.

The audit began in May 2023 with a review of documents provided by the mine. This next on-site phase gives all relevant stakeholders the opportunity to give their views on the mine’s environmental, health, safety and community performance.

During the on-site portion of the audit, auditors will ask local stakeholders, including community members and organizations, government officials and non-management mine workers, to participate in interviews or meetings, or to provide information by other means, including email or online. SCS will use stakeholder feedback to determine GCO’s performance against the IRMA standard.

Please contact SCS if you wish to give your opinion. You can do so in person or in writing. Interviews can take place in person or virtually (by phone or video conference). Use the link, QR code or WhatsApp number below to contact SCS to request an interview, ask questions or provide feedback. The identity and remarks of commenters are kept confidential upon request.

IRMA will publish the full audit report on https://responsiblemining.net. This report will explain how SCS assessed the mine site against the requirements of the 26 chapters of the IRMA standard, and why. SCS will assign scores for each chapter. Following publication of the report, stakeholders can still comment on the mine’s performance to help guide operational improvement throughout the three-year IRMA audit cycle.

SCS is an IRMA-accredited auditing firm based in Emeryville, California. For more information on SCS, please visit www.scsglobalservices.com.

The IRMA standard is the world’s most comprehensive mining standard for industrial-scale mines, and the only one that is governed equally by all stakeholders: mining companies, mineral buyers, investors, unions, communities and civil society NGOs. Audit of mining sites under the IRMA standard is voluntary. For more information on IRMA requirements and certification, visit www.responsiblemining.net.
