Eramet Grande Côte confirms its role as a major player in the country’s economic and social development, with a total economic contribution of 122 billion CFA francs to Senegal in 2024. Through sustained investment in local employment, national purchasing and taxation, as well as a reinforced commitment to corporate social responsibility, more than 20,000 people have benefited from initiatives in the fields of health, agriculture, entrepreneurship and regional development.
Eramet Grande Cote reports on its economic and social contributions over the full year 2024. The company paid CFA 28 billion in taxes, committed CFA 70.5 billion to local purchases and subcontracting services, and spent CFA 22 billion on payroll for a total of 2,526 direct jobs, 98% of which were filled by Senegalese employees. The company thus confirms its active role in the country’s economic and social dynamic.
Eramet Grande Côte is also continuing to implement its social mining program for local communities, taking concrete action in the areas of health and economic development. In 2024, 13,000 people benefited from medical consultations at the health posts supported by the company, reinforcing access to local healthcare in activity zones.
On the economic front, more than 1,500 market gardeners were supported through the distribution of 57 tonnes of agricultural inputs and 882 pots of onion seed, promoting the development of local agricultural sectors. In addition, 6,000 people, including 500 working women, have benefited from structured support for economic inclusion through their integration into economic interest groups.
Eramet Grande Côte has also completed a major tourism development project in Senegal, with the creation of the “Oasis du Sénégal” in the Darou Khoudoss commune, near Diogo. Driven by a desire for territorial enhancement and sustainable local development, this project has mobilized a voluntary investment of 2 billion CFA francs.
Conceived as an ecological, tourist and social space, the Oasis covers 544 hectares and includes a landscaped area of 2,000 m², a plantation of over 1,000 palm trees, leisure facilities and a lake. The first tourist operator to set up shop here opened its doors in January 2025. In this way, L’Oasis du Sénégal is helping to boost the region’s economic and tourist appeal.
Eramet Beyond: a corporate philanthropy program focusing on women’s entrepreneurship and rural development
In addition to its mandatory contributions, Eramet Grande Côte is continuing to roll out its “Beyond for Contributive Impacts” strategic sponsorship program, through two flagship initiatives: “Femmes d’Avenir”, dedicated to supporting women entrepreneurs, and the “BUILD” project to support the local economy in the Louga region.
- Femmes d’Avenir Senegal : Launched in partnership with Women in Africa Philanthropy in 2023 for a period of three years, the program has enabled 178 women entrepreneurs to strengthen their skills in the Dakar and Thiès regions, contributing to the creation and support of 1,749 indirect jobs.
The program includes two training paths that are offered to women entrepreneurs depending on the stage of development of their business:
-
- Young start-ups” course: 200 women trained each year in key behavioral and relational skills (speaking, self-confidence, leadership, etc.), through 4 intensive 2-day bootcamps;
- Confirmed entrepreneur” course: customized year-round support for 5 high-potential female champions, focused on reinforcing their professional skills and entrepreneurial posture.
- BUILD (Beyond Uniting Initiatives for Louga’s Development): a lever for sustainable growth in the Louga regionDeployed in the Louga region, where Eramet Grande Cote’s itinerant mine has been operating since 2023, this four-year program aims to sustainably boost the incomes of rural populations, particularly young people and women, by focusing on three key sectors: market gardening, livestock breeding and fishing.
In 2024, the project’s operational foundations were laid, with precise scoping in three pilot communes: Thieppe, Kab Gaye and Diokoul Diawgrine.
BUILD is based on two complementary areas of intervention:
- Development of agricultural infrastructure: construction or rehabilitation of rural facilities, implementation of appropriate storage solutions, semi-industrial processing units, and improved access to markets to enhance the value of local production;
- Strengthening the technical skills of target populations: training 500 beneficiaries in management and marketing techniques, and 250 people in the processing of market garden, fish and dairy products. Specific support in managing economic activities is also planned.
“Eramet Grande Côte significantly supports the development of the regions where our mine operates. This contribution is growing and demonstrates our commitment to providing the best possible support for local needs.
