DIOGO, April 04, 2025
On Thursday April 03, the mining company opened its doors to the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).
Led by its Chairman, Mr. Thialy Faye, the EITI delegation was accompanied by members of the mine’s neighboring communities and activists.
The visit was an opportunity to foster constructive exchanges and a better understanding of the issues at stake for the various stakeholders.
GCO SA’s Managing Director emphasized that these “discussions reinforce our determination to intensify dialogue with the communities. Transparency is one of our values”.
“If all companies in the Senegalese extractive sector could be equally open to civil society and to institutions such as the EITI National Committee, this would reinforce the requirement for transparency that binds us all,” said Dr. Pape Fara Diallo of the EITI, adding: “We are delighted to learn that GCO has even embarked on the IRMA certification process”.
Eramet Grande Côte is the first Senegalese mine to voluntarily commit to the IRMA – Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance – process to assess its socio-environmental performance.
