Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, GCO’s management has made changes to contain the virus in order to protect the health of its employees and partners. Its strategy has focused on keeping the virus out of GCO’s workspaces and living quarters, in order to maintain production and retain jobs for as long as possible. In addition, management is also working to ensure compliance with Senegalese health measures and the Group’s recommendations for preventing the spread of the virus (social distancing, mask wearing, and regular hand washing, as well as cleaning and enhanced disinfection of workspaces and living quarters). As part of this effort to contain the pandemic, GCO has set up a crisis management committee and a monitoring unit to develop prevention, supervision, and awareness measures for employees.
As the pandemic spread throughout the country, GCO took other significant steps, including a total lockdown of the Diogo, Mékhé, and Port sites on April 1 and the introduction of teleworking for some employees. Fourteen-day quarantines are required for personnel returning from a break, to ensure they do not show any symptoms of the virus before returning to the lockdown sites.
Thanks to this strategy, the WCP, the MSP, and the port, as well as all of GCO’s production activities, continue to operate with significantly improved health and safety measures.
